Egyptian singer Mohamed Ramadan has come under fire after online photos showed him hugging Israeli singer Omer Adam and another Israeli celebrity.
The photo, uploaded to social media while visiting the United Arab Emirates, caused a public outcry in Egypt because of the broad anti-Israel sentiment in the country, despite the official peace accord signed in 1979.
One lawyer, citing "offense to the Egyptian people," even filed a lawsuit against Ramadan and called his actions "irresponsible," adding that his music videos have no artistic value.
The lawyer said the photos, shared on Israeli government Twitter accounts, "cause a cancer that destroys all that has remained of the country's morality and ethics."

The lawsuit also states that Ramadan has forgotten that "the Zionist settlers were the first enemy of the state and the terrible things they did to Egypt and how much Egyptian blood they shed during the October War [the 1973 Yom Kippur war] and capture our territory." The lawsuit claims Ramadan is an example for many young Egyptians as they look up to the artist and hence his actions could not be allowed to go unchallenged.
Ramadan's legal battles extend beyond this lawsuit. Supreme Constitutional Court lawyer Tarek Mahmoud demanded the Egyptian Syndicate of Artists take disciplinary action against him and according to various reports, the organization has already suspended him pending an investigation.
