Former National Coronavirus Project Coordinator Professor Ronni Gamzu is exploring the possibility of vying for the position of the mayor of Tel Aviv in the city's 2023 municipal elections.
Gamzu, CEO of Tel Aviv's Sourasky Medical Center, won the public's sympathy for his efforts to help the country navigate the coronavirus pandemic.

While the municipal election is slated to take place in just over two years, they may be called earlier if the current mayor, Ron Huldai, takes the leap into national politics – a move that would see the five-time mayor leave office before the end of his current term.
Should Huldai vie for a Knesset seat, he is expected to join the Labor party, or potentially form a new political faction.
