Yehoshua Kenaz, one of Israel's preeminent novelists – as well as a screenwriter, editor, linguist, and translator – died Monday at age 83.
Kenaz translated many French classics into Hebrew and has been awarded the Alterman Prize, the Newman Prize, the Agnon Prize, the ACUM Prize, and the Bialik Prize.

His novel Infiltration (1986) was named one of the 10 most important books in Israeli history. Four of his novels have been adapted into films.
