Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, who flew to the United Arab Emirates to discuss the creation of business opportunities for Israelis and Emiratis, told i24NEWS she regards the historic normalization agreement between the two countries as an economic opportunity for Palestinians in east Jerusalem.

Hassan-Nahoum is the co-founder of the UAE-Israel Business Council. She holds Jerusalem's foreign affairs portfolio and is working toward increasing business opportunities between Israeli and Emirati companies.
She characterized her approach as "building peace from the ground up."

"There's a lot to be done with the Arabic-speaking population in Jerusalem as a very natural bridge," she said.
On the heels of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and Bahrain and the UAE, a number of Israeli officials and entrepreneurs have visited the two Gulf states to pursue cooperation in various areas.

The Sept. 15 US-brokered deal was signed in Washington at the same time as an Israel-UAE normalization agreement.
On Thursday, Hassan-Nahoum presided over the inaugural meeting of the Gulf-Israel Women's Forum, a group of Emirati and Israeli women that serves as a division of the UAE-Israel Business Council. It was created by Hassan-Nahoum and Justine Zwerling.
