Former Likud MK Yehuda Glick said Wednesday that he plans a presidential bid next year, President Reuven Rivlin's tenure ends in the summer of 2021. The Knesset, which elects the president once every seven years, is slated to begin the process early next year.

Glick, asking the lawmakers to support him, said he was the only candidate who fits the role, adding he has already met with 40 lawmakers from across the political spectrum, who said they would back him. He needs the support of 80 MKs to officially become a candidate.
Labor leader Amir Peretz and Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog have also been rumored as viable candidates for the presidency.
