The almost-complete lockdown currently in effect in Israel has already had a positive impact, corona czar Professor Ronni Gamzu said on Tuesday, cautioning that it was too early to tell if this reflects a consistent trend.

"Daily new cases stand at around 5,500 and there are signs of a reduced morbidity rate, but this all might be a consequence of the changing routine of the holidays, so there is no way to be certain," Gamzu said, adding that the reproduction rate of the virus was around 1, which "is concerning."
Gamzu called on people to go get tested. "Even if you have the slightest suspicion that you may be a carrier, go get tested," Gamzu said, lashing out at those who belittle the coronavirus' threat. "Anyone who compares this to the flu doesn't know a thing about the flu," he said angrily.
Israel's second lockdown in six months took effect in late September ahead of Israel's High Holidays, in order to stem the surging community spread of COVID-19. Israelis have to stay home unless they are considered essential workers or have a valid excuse to go out.
