Israel Prize laureate Professor Ruth Gavison died on Saturday at the age of 75. A highly influential figure in the field of law, Gavison dedicated most of her life to civil rights and democracy and was hailed as one of Israel's greatest legal scholars.
Gavison was a founding member of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, which she also chaired from 1996 to 1999. She was also a member of the International Commission of Jurists from 1998 to 2008.

Together with Rabbi Yaakov Medan, she formulated the Gavison-Medan Covenant as a draft of a new framework for religious-secular relations in Israel.
