A total of 20% of new confirmed coronavirus cases in Israel this past week have been identified in the nation's haredi sector, according to a new report from the Corona National Information and Knowledge Center published Wednesday.
The report states that five infection haredi hot spots of infection – Elad, Beit Shemesh, Bnei Brak, Modi'in Illit, and Betar Illit – account for 14% of the new cases confirmed nationwide this past week. As of June 22, there were 69 confirmed cases in these five communities.

In the past week, 173 new cases have been confirmed in Bnei Brak, with 23 confirmed in Beit Shemesh.
The data was published following a government decision to institute a closure on Elad, and restrict traffic to and from some haredi neighborhoods in Tiberias which have also seen a spike in new corona cases.
Approximately 96% of the new cases are people under age 50.
The Health Ministry also reported Wednesday that as of 9 a.m., another 450 coronavirus cases had been confirmed in the past 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus deaths since the onset of the pandemic in the spring remains at 308, and the number of corona patients being treated in hospitals has dropped from 194 to 186. A total of 45 patients were listed in serious condition.
