Haifa is seeing a spike in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases among its residents, a report from the Corona National Information and Knowledge Center, operated by the Health Ministry and the IDF, revealed on Wednesday.
Last week the number of confirmed carriers in Haifa rose from 15 to 64, meaning the city's infection rate stands at 4.27, considerably higher than the national average. This development is interesting and worrying because thus far Haifa has remained relatively corona-free since the pandemic hit Israel.

Rechasim, which is a town near Haifa and home to a largely ultra-Orthodox population, saw its number of confirmed cases rise from four to 22 this past week, an infection rate of 5.5, the CNIKC report says.
Another city that is seeing a significant rise in the number of confirmed cases is Kiryat Gat, where the numbers increased from eight to 23 this past week.
The report states that nationwide, 303 people have died of COVID-19, and the number of active cases in Israel stands at 3,875. A total of 299 new cases have been confirmed in the past 24 hours.
