Yesha Coucil Chairman David Elhayani over the weekend sent a letter to Coalition Chairman MK Miki Zohar, asking him to allow other council officials to attend a Likud faction meeting on Sunday. The letter was sent amid reports that American and Israeli negotiators will meet in the coming days to finalize the delineation of the areas where Israel will seek to apply sovereignty in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley.

Elhayani wants the Yesha Council, the umbrella organization of Jewish local authorities in Judea and Samaria, to have an opportunity to present its position on the Trump administration's plan. In recent weeks, Elhayani has spearheaded opposition to the plan, arguing that it essentially kills the idea of a Greater Israel and allows for the creation of a Palestinian state.
Professors for a Strong Israel, meanwhile, which describes itself as a "non-partisan organization of academics united by a shared concern for the security and the Jewish character of the State of Israel," called on the government to capitalize on the opportunity provided by the Trump plan.
"In these days of such extraordinary American support for Israel from the friendliest administration the White House has ever seen, and in light of the fact that within this context a historic window of opportunity has been created to apply sovereignty in the Jordan Valley and the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria – Professors for a Strong Israel is calling on the Israeli government to act and apply sovereignty without hesitation," the group said in a statement.
The group of academics, who are affiliated with the nationalist camp, added: "Despite the predictable and baseless scare-tactics from the left side of the political map, we view the application of sovereignty as a historic initiative that the State of Israel must not squander, despite the challenges it entails."
