Following a prolonged struggle that has included protests, rallies, and even hunger strikes by artists and performers, it appears the curtain that had dropped on Israel's cultural scene in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic will finally go up again next Sunday, June 14, after the government agreed to provide a bailout package of 200 million shekels ($ 57 million).

Finance Minister Israel Katz, Culture Minister Yehiel Tropper and representatives from the country's cultural institutions met on Tuesday to finalize the details of the package, which will help them reopen their doors to the general public.
"I'm very happy that Israel's cultural scene will return to life," said Tropper.

Chairman of the Israel Culture and Arts Forum, Danny Weiss, said: "The cultural institutions in Israel view the meeting that was held [on Tuesday] as a formative event, and thank the ministers."
