The Israeli military on Tuesday night said that IDF tanks targeted three Hamas sites in the northern Gaza Strip following terrorist rocket fire on southern Israel earlier in the evening.
A projectile fired from Gaza at Israeli communities near the volatile border triggered the Color Red alert.

The IDF said the rocket was identified as heading to the Eshkol region. It hit an open area, causing no harm, the military said.
The IDF said that in response tanks shelled three "Hamas military positions in the northern Gaza Strip."

The Israel-Gaza border has been relatively calm in recent weeks, as both parties have been focusing on fighting the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Tuesday was the first time in over 40 days that terrorist groups in the coastal enclave have fired on Israel.
The IDF responded to the rocket fire in March by attacking "military positions and infrastructure used for underground activity by Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip," according to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.
