Israel's coronavirus death doll rose to 208 on Tuesday, the Health Ministry said.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 15,589. Of them, 126 are in serious condition, with 96 patients intubated. So far, 7,375 Israelis have recovered from the virus, the ministry said.

The overall decrease in the number of new patients continued, as 113 new cases were diagnosed Monday compared to a daily average of 200 last week.

Israel on Sunday began easing the restrictions imposed on public life and economic activity, allowing most businesses to open under certain operational limitations.

While the overall infection rate has been steadily declining, indicating Israel has been able to "flatten the curb," the improved figures were tempered by statistics released by the Health Ministry indicating that testing had decreased below 10,000 samples a day, after previously reaching 14,000.

A ministry official attributed the drop to a diminished demand by the public for testing.

Meanwhile, an 11-year-old girl suffering from a serious case of the coronavirus has shown signs of improvement.

Medical officials at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa said Tuesday that the girl, Hadas Biton, tested negative for the virus but remains in an induced coma and is relying on a breathing machine, due to complications caused by the infection.
