Following the deal between Blue and White and Likud on Monday to establish a national emergency government, Justice Yitzhak Amit instructed the government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the various political factions to respond to appeals filed with the High Court of Justice against the decision to task Netanyahu with forming the next government.
They are required to respond by this Thursday at 2 p.m.
The key component of the aforementioned appeals is the demand to prohibit a Knesset member accused of crimes carrying moral turpitude from forming a government. According to the law, however, a prime minister under indictment is allowed to remain in office until the case against him is adjudicated.

In January, Attorney General Avihai Mendelblit announced that Netanyahu would be indicted on charges of corruption, fraud and breach of trust in three cases.
Thus far, six appeals submitted on the matter have been rejected outright with the explanation that they were presented too soon and can only be reviewed after Netanyahu is tasked with forming the government.
Just last week, Justice Alex Stein rejected an appeal on the matter by a group of 20 defense officials and professors that was filed shorlty after President Reuven Rivlin refused to extend Blue and White leader Benny Gantz' mandate for forming a government.
