Cleared for publication: The Shin Bet security agency has arrested an Israeli man on suspicion of spying on the behalf of Iranian intelligence agencies.
According to available information, Shin Bet and Israel Police forces arrested the suspect on March 16, after a covert investigation revealed he had been in secret contact with Iranian intelligence officials and an operative from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in Lebanon, Khaled Yamani.

The Shin Bet further said that the suspect had several meetings overseas with Iranian intelligence officers and reportedly received funds, training, and secret encryption tools to continue contacting them "in an encrypted manner even after his return to Israel."
At the time of his arrest, he attempted to destroy a disk drive that was in his possession, the agency said.
According to Shin Bet's statement, "This investigation demonstrates once again that Iran and its envoys are working to recruit and exploit Israeli civilians in favor of Iran's needs."
Last week, a 25-year-old Israeli woman was accused of spying for the Lebanese Shiite-Islamist terrorist group, Hezbollah.
