The cabinet on Tuesday gave a green light to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal for a complete lockdown during Passover.
The measure is designed to prevent a major uptick in the community spread of COVID-19 during the holiday, which begins Wednesday evening.

The nation-wide lockdown is set to take effect at 7 p.m. and is expected to last until Saturday evening.
The cabinet also approved a temporary curfew that will begin on Wednesday from 3 p.m. and last until Thursday morning for all Jewish communities. The curfew restricts movement that goes beyond 100 meters (330 feet) from one's home, except under life-and-death situations and other emergencies that meet the well-defined exceptions.
In addition, public transportation will cease at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening until Friday morning, when services will be available only for a few hours until the start of Shabbat.
