The government has approved the most stringent lockdown conditions since the start of the coronavirus crisis in Israel, but the city of Rishon LeZion (Israel's fourth-largest city) has come up with an intriguing solution to protect residents who must leave their homes to pick up food, medicine, or to go to work.
On Wednesday, Rishon LeZion Mayor Raz Kintslich called on the city's residents to plan their routes ahead of time to take them along the right-hand side of the street only, with the direction of traffic.

The city hopes that by restricting pedestrian traffic to one direction only, people will avoid passing each other, limiting chances that coronavirus carriers can spread the virus.
The right-side rule is already in use in other major cities as a way of easing sidewalk congestion.
"We have to develop new habits in these times to minimize the risk of catching or spreading the virus. Walking on one side of the road will reduce pedestrian density and reduce the chance of spreading the virus," Kintslich said.
