The New York-based publisher Hachette Book Group has decided to drop an option to publish a biography of film director Woody Allen after several dozen employees protested the project by staging a walkout last week.
Allen has been investigated twice over allegations that he molested his daughter, Dylan Farrow. He denies her accusations. Dylan's brother, Ronan, an author whose work has been published by Hachette, reportedly threatened to cut ties with the company if they proceeded with the Allen biography.

Dylan Farrow responded to the walkout by tweeting, "Unbelievably overwhelmed and so incredibly grateful for the solidarity demonstrated by @HachetteUS and @littlebrown employees."
In a Twitter statement released Friday, Hachette said that it would be returning to Allen all rights to the memoir titled A Propos of Nothing. The book had been slated to hit the shelves in April 2020.
"The decision to cancel Mr. Allen's book was a difficult one … We have published and will continue to publish many challenging books," the company's tweet read.
Hachette said its directors had held "extensive conversations with our staff and others" and concluded that it would not be moving forward with the Allen biography.
