Far-right Polish politician Janusz Korwin-Mikke said last week that the pogroms held against European Jews throughout history had benefited the Jewish people as the aided the process of natural selection.
Natural selection is a central concept of evolution. It is the process where organisms with favorable traits are more likely to reproduce or survive catastrophic events and in doing so, they pass on these traits to the next generation.

Korwin-Mikke, a member of a far-right faction of parties called Confederation, Liberty and Independence, made the remark to Polsat TV channel last week. He was a guest on a show that discussed the effects of the global coronavirus outbreak.
The upside to the coronavirus was that it was "eliminating the weak through natural selection and improving humanity's gene pool," he said.
He then turned to Jewish history to prove his horrific point, saying that the murderous pogroms against Jews in Europe "had a positive outcome" because they eventually "improved the stock of the Jewish people."
