Israelis love dogs and now we know just how much.
According to the newly released registry of pets in the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry, Israeli households had 496,538 canines in 2019, with the majority of them – 251,291 – male.

The data also shows that some 70% of female dogs that year were spayed, whereas only 55% of male dogs were neutered.
The average age of an Israeli dog in 2019 was 6.4 years, and at least 21,000 were puppies (defined as being 1-year-old or younger).
The most popular names for dogs in 2019 was Lula for females and Louis for males.
Mika, Luna, Toffee, Belle Moka, and Lucy were also among the most popular female names.
For males, the names Toy, Johnny, Shoko (chocolate milk), Lucky, Simba and Max were dominant.
