The researchers developed the vaccine over four years in the MIGAL – Galilee Research Institute in order to protect poultry from the avian infectious bronchitis virus.
The researchers say that the similarity between the viruses could pave the way for a speedy development of a vaccine for humans, but they cautioned that this could take several months, in part because of the need to ensure it is safe for humans.
"We will try to begin safety testing within 90 days," David Zigdon, the CEO of the institute, said on Thursday.
