Honduras on Monday announced it was designating Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
"Honduras joins Guatemala and other countries in announcing that Hezbollah will be declared an international terrorist organization nationwide," a statement released by the office of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández said.

The Lebanon-based Hezbollah is a Shiite organization that serves as an Iranian proxy in the Middle East. Thanks to Tehran's effort, the once-small militant group has become a military-grade organization that possesses a sophisticated arsenal of weapons, including – according to IDF intelligence – 150,000 missiles that threaten Israel in its entirety.

Iran often uses Hezbollah as an extraterritorial pawn, and its operatives have carried out dozens of terrorist attacks around the world on behalf of their Iranian patrons.
Hezbollah has been designated as a terrorist group by several western countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Argentina, Paraguay, and Israel, as well as Arab League member Bahrain. Most recently, Guatemala declared the Shiite group a terrorist organization as well.
Some countries, such as Australia, France, and Germany, only classify Hezbollah's military wing as a terrorist organization.
Hezbollah has a formidable political presence in Lebanon, where it all but controls parliament and enjoys the support of President Michel Aoun.
The administration of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, elected in 2013 and again in 2018, has proven pro-Israeli, with Tegucigalpa even following in Washington's footsteps in recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
