Israel plans to significantly upgrade its wind farms with a multimillion shekel investment that will go toward hundreds of new wind turbines in the country's north.
The project, which seeks to boost renewable energy production while answering security needs, was given the go-ahead by the Energy, Finance, and Defense ministries, as well as by the Israel Electricity Authority.

The four signed a framework agreement that will allow the construction of hundreds of wind turbines, whose development is estimated at 250 million shekels ($72 million).
"We have invested considerable resources in facilitating this agreement, and together with the IDF, we agreed that this is a calculated risk worth taking," said Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (ret.) Udi Adam.
"The Defense Ministry sees great importance in promoting renewable energy projects. The technological development aspect of the agreement creates the right balance between security needs and energy and environmental protection needs."
Udi Adiri, director general of the Energy Ministry, noted that "promoting renewable energy requires tackling many challenges, including security, economic, and planning challenges. The signed agreement removes from the table one of the major difficulties facing this industry."
