The military on Wednesday revealed a new, multi-dimensional combat unit hailed as the first of its kind in the world.
Formed on orders of IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, the new unit will combine infantry, combat engineering, tanks, and air power troops. One of its primary missions will be to test new fighting techniques, tactics and strategies.

The unit, Shiloah, was formed as part of Kochavi's multiyear work plan, dubbed Momentum, which seeks to make the IDF more deadly and more prepared for a variety of threats it expects to face both on Israel's borders and in the regional theater.
The unit will operate under the auspices of the 98th Paratroopers Division, commonly known as the Fire Formation, which is one of the IDF's elite forces.
The Shiloah Unit will operate based on specific tactics developed specifically for its troops, and its operations are likely to impact the structure and operations of other elements and units in the IDF.
The military said intelligence and communications units would also be part of the detail, whose troops are already undergoing team-building exercises. The military expects to declare the unit fully operational by late 2020.
