IDF troops on Sunday shot and killed a Palestinian terrorist who opened fire at them while attempting to breach the Israel-Gaza border, the military said. No Israeli troops were harmed in the incident.
Following the incident, IDF tanks shelled a number of Hamas observation posts along the border.

Palestinian media named the gunman as Marwan Nasser, 25. Images of his body posted on Palestinian social media showed him wearing a green bandana associated with the Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas military wing.
His body was taken from the border area to the Indonesian Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, the Palestinians said.
"IDF lookouts spotted an armed terrorist approaching the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip," a military statement said. "The terrorist shot at IDF troops, who returned fire, neutralizing the terrorist."
A military official stressed that at no time during the incident were any of the Israeli communities adjacent to the border in any danger.
Sunday's skirmish follows a serious security incident on the southern border that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, during which IDF troops engaged and killed four heavily-armed Palestinians as they attempted to cross the Gaza border.
The terrorists were found in possession of AK-47 assault rifles, RPG grenade launchers, and hand grenades, the military said, noting that the troops who eliminated them prevented a "major terrorist attack that could have triggered a serious escalation on the Gaza border."
