Members of Israel's national judo team won two medals in the Grand Prix competition in Zagreb, Croatia, over the weekend.
Judoka Tohar Butbul won the gold medal Saturday at the prestigious competition's under-73 kilogram weight category, while Peter Paltchik, took home the bronze medal on Sunday in the under-100 kilogram category.

This was the first International Judo Federation gold medal for Butbul, who earned it by beating Osaka Grand Slam silver medallist Arthur Margelidon (Canada).
Paltchik won the bronze after defeating Georgian Tabelroy in the second round and German Karl-Richard Frey in the third round. This was Paltchik third bronze medal in 2019 and his 10th medal overall.
Judokas Uri Sasson, Lee Kochman, Inbal Lanir and Raz Hershko were all disqualified in the early stages of the competition, considered the last hurdle athletes need to clear to qualify for the 2019 World Judo Championships in Tokyo, Japan, which are scheduled to take place from Aug. 25 to Sept. 1.
