Israeli security forces thwarted an attempt by Gaza Strip-based terrorists to smuggle rockets into the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave, the military revealed Friday. Four suspects were arrested and incited on several terror-related offenses.
The operation, a collaboration of the IDF and Shin Bet security agency, seized rocket-manufacturing materials en route to the Gaza Strip through Egypt's Sinai coast.
"On May 11, 2019, two Palestinian vessels entered the forbidden area of entry [on the maritime border] of the southern Gaza Strip, in violation of the security regulations and cease-fire directives," the IDF statement read. "The vessels were seized and four suspects were arrested and handed over to the Shin Bet for further questioning."
The Shin Bet said the suspects were en route to Gaza with prohibited materials used to make projectiles that are fired at Israel by Hamas, including two dozen barrels of fiberglass.
The suspects are facing charges of conspiracy to commit an act of terror, membership in a terrorist organization, and aiding in terrorist activities, among other offenses.
