The Arab League on Sunday called on Germany to reverse its decision on Friday to condemn the anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions movement as "anti-Semitic."
Germany's parliament passed a resolution Friday condemning BDS while urging the government not to fund or support groups or activities that call into question Israel's right to exist and defend itself.
On Sunday, Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Palestinian Affairs Saeed Abu Ali called the Bundestag's motion "regrettable ... unjustified ... (and) biased" in favor of Israel.
Abu Ali urged Germany's parliament to "reverse this erroneous step and support the Palestinian people's right for liberation."
The nonbinding resolution – sponsored jointly by Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union and the Social Democrats – was the only one of three pending motions relating to the BDS movement to come to a vote on Friday.
One, sponsored by Germany's far-right AfD party, calls to outlaw the BDS movement altogether. The far-left Die Linke party sponsored the third, which was a softened version of the motion that passed, and called for a condemnation of "anti-Semitic incidents" in the movement.
