Al Jazeera's youth-focused AJ+ Arabic-language channel on Friday pulled a video that claimed Jews distort and exploit the Holocaust and that Israel has been the "greatest beneficiary" of the Nazi-perpetrated genocide.
The seven-minute-long Arabic-language video was posted on AJ+ Arabic social media platforms along with the caption: "The gas chambers killed millions of Jews. … So the story says. How true is the #Holocaust and how did the Zionists benefit from it?"
In the video, a presenter asserted that while the Holocaust did indeed happen, the facts were "different from how the Jews tell it."
The video also claimed that Jewish suffering is emphasized over that of other persecuted groups because the Jews are wealthy and control media companies – a classic anti-Semitic trope – and that "statistics were inflated by the Zionist movement to help them establish Israel."
"Israel – who benefited the most from the Holocaust – uses the same pretexts as the Nazis to commit ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians and eliminate them," the video said.
A number of Israeli officials condemned the video as peddling anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial.
After amassing more than 1.1 million views on Facebook and Twitter, Al Jazeera deleted the video, saying it violated the network's editorial standards.
