The Broadway musical "The Band's Visit" – based on an Israeli film by the same name from director Eran Kolirin – won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album on Sunday night.
The composer and lyricist is David Yazbek. Principal soloists include Etai Benson, Adam Kantor, Katrina Lenk, and Ari'el Stachel.
Kolirin's 2007 film tells the story members of an Egyptian police orchestra booked to play a concert in a city in southern Israel, who accidentally wind up in the wrong town.
"The Band's Visit" scooped up 10 Tony Awards last June, including best musical, direction, orchestration, sound design, book and score, lighting and featured actor for Stachel, who plays Haled – a ladies' man and trumpet player in the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra.
"In 'The Band's Visit,' music gives people hope and makes borders disappear," producer Orin Wolf said as he accepted the award for best new musical.
