Seven Israelis, including a pregnant woman, were wounded in a terrorist shooting at a bus stop near the Samaria settlement of Ofra on Sunday evening.
Security camera footage posted on social media showed a white car approaching the bus stop and slowing down, then a man inside opening fire on the people waiting at the stop, who scramble for cover. The car comes to a stop for a few moments and the shooting intensifies, then it speeds away as IDF troops rush to the scene.
A 21-year-old pregnant woman was critically wounded in the attack and was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where doctors performed an emergency Cesarean section to save her and her baby.
On Monday morning, the hospital said the woman's condition had stabilized, upgrading her condition from critical to serious. However, the condition of her newborn son, delivered in the 30th week of pregnancy, had deteriorated from serious to critical, the hospital said.
"Both mother and child have a long way to go before they are out of danger," said Shaare Zedek Medical Director Professor Yonatan Halevy.
The other victims of the attack, including two 16-year-old girls, were rushed to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem with minor to moderate injuries.
The IDF believes two terrorists were involved in the attack. Security forces raided the Palestinian town of Silwad, northeast of Ramallah, toward which the car was seen driving.
Silwad is a known hub of Hamas activity in the West Bank.
Roadblocks have been erected throughout the area as military and Border Police forces continue to canvass Palestinian villages.
"Shots were fired at Israeli civilians standing at a bus station from a passing Palestinian vehicle. IDF troops nearby responded by firing towards the vehicle, which fled. Security forces are currently searching the area," the IDF said on its Twitter page.
Later it added, "IDF and Border Police troops continue to search the area for the terrorists, and intelligence efforts are ongoing as well. The IDF will spare no effort to apprehend the terrorists and ensure the residents' security."
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement saying, "This was a very serious terrorist attack. We are all praying for the young mother and her baby, and wish the wounded a speedy recovery. We will not rest until we find these heinous terrorists and bring them to justice."
President Reuven Rivlin also issued a statement saying, "Our hearts go out to the wounded, among them a young mother who brought life into this world out of the inferno, and we pray for their speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with security forces, who are sparing no effort to apprehend the terrorists."
Hamas issued a statement lauding the attack.
"This incident proves that there is resistance in the West Bank, despite the occupation's attempts to quash it. Operations against the occupation in the West Bank will continue," the terrorist group said.
