Two Israeli high school students were sent home from an educational school trip in Poland after removing their pants and dancing while visiting the Majdanek death camp, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported Monday.
According to the report, two workers at the site spotted the offenders and alerted the local police. As well as being removed from the tour and sent back to Israel, they also had to pay a fine to the Polish authorities.
The two students recently completed 11th grade.
In response to the incident, the Israeli Education Ministry issued a statement saying, "We view this conduct very seriously, and we believe this undermines the very purpose of the trip to Poland.
"In this case, in light of the unacceptable behavior of those students, disciplinary action was taken and they were sent home. We plan to pursue further disciplinary action against them to the fullest extent."
The Emek Hamaayanot Regional Council, where the two attend school, also issued a statement saying that the incident was a "major breach of the proper code of conduct that was immediately addressed by the staff and the Ministry of Education. The two students returned along with their homeroom teacher. This matter will be investigated further so as to avoid similar incidents."
