A Palestinian teen was killed Sunday night in clashes with Israel Defense Forces troops in the West Bank, Palestinian health officials said Monday morning.
The Palestinian Authority health ministry said 15-year-old Arkan Mezher was fatally shot in the chest by Israeli fire. Another person was wounded by live fire in his leg, the ministry said.
The IDF said troops were carrying out an arrest raid in the Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem overnight when a "violent riot" erupted. The Israeli military said Palestinians hurled firebombs and grenades at soldiers.
IDF troops fired live rounds "selectively," the military said, and Israeli authorities were looking into the reports of the teenager's death.
While tensions have flared in recent months between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the West Bank has been relatively calm during that time.
The IDF added that during the raid, it detained two Palestinians suspected of involvement in terror attacks and uncovered a weapons manufacturing warehouse.
