Iranian Defense Minister Amir Khatami warned Tuesday that his country will mount a "surprising response" to Israel's exposure of its nuclear archives and cautioned the "Zionist regime to stop its dangerous behavior."
Khatami echoed other regime officials attempts to downplay the importance of the documents revealed by Israel on Monday and said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's allegations that Iran has been lying to the international community are "baseless."
Khatami said Israel has "moved away from Western logic," and that Israel should be wary of a situation in which Iran decides to "resort to strategies outside its strategy of restraint."
"This is our warning to the regime occupying Jerusalem and its supporters: Stop your dangerous behavior. The Iranian response will be surprising and you will regret it," Khatami said.
He said Netanyahu is trying to "whitewash his unjustifiable crimes against the Palestinian people."
A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry called Netanyahu a "despicable liar" and said Israel's allegations against Iran are "useless and worn out."
Iran's state-run media mocked Netanyahu's allegations that Iran is still pursuing nuclear weapons.
The IRNA news agency said Netanyahu is "famous for ridiculous shows" and the semi-official Fars news agency, considered a mouthpiece for the Revolutionary Guards, dismissed Netanyahu's speech as a "propaganda show."
Tehran also threatened retaliation over Israel's alleged strikes on Iranian assets in Syria.
A senior Iranian member of parliament vowed on Tuesday that his country would react to "Israeli aggression" against it in Syria, issuing his warning following missile strikes on Syrian military bases on Sunday.
No country has claimed responsibility for Sunday's missile strikes.
"We will respond to any aggression on Iran at the right time and place," said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
He did not directly accuse Israel of Sunday's raids, but said such strikes in Syria were in response to the Syrian government's victories over insurgents and militants.
"The presence of our military advisers in Syria has nothing to do with Israel," he said, adding that the Iranians were there in coordination with the Syrian government and as part of a military operations room that includes Russia.
