The Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office on Wednesday indicted 19-year-old Jaffa resident Kamel Abu Amara for affiliation with the Islamic State group.
Prosecutors believe that Abu Amara was planning to establish an ISIS cell in Israel, carry out terrorist attacks and recruit others on behalf of the jihadi terrorist group.
According to the indictment, Abu Amara was in constant contact with foreign agents, supporters and members of ISIS. It is believed he joined the terrorist group by sending his handlers a video of himself swearing allegiance to the group.
"The suspect's actions, which speak for themselves, clearly support remanding him on the grounds of posing a threat to state security and public safety," the prosecution said.
"The threat the suspect poses is augmented by the fact that, by his own admission, he heeds the terrorist organization's ideology and objectives and is hostile toward Jews and the State of Israel."
Also on Wednesday, Israeli security forces thwarted another attempt to breach the Israel-Gaza Strip border.
The military said IDF lookouts spotted a group of five Palestinians approaching the security fence from the direction of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis early Wednesday. At least one of the suspects was visibly armed.
An Israeli tank was immediately sent to the area and fired toward the suspects. According to the IDF, the suspects were wounded and were evacuated by Palestinian paramedics.
Meanwhile, the IDF, Israel Police, Border Police and Shin Bet security agency conducted a joint counterterrorism operation in several locations across Judea and Samaria.
Troops raided a weapons mill in Jenin and confiscated tools and materials used in producing illegal weapons.
