Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about his recent trip to the U.S. at a weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday.
"Last Friday, I returned from the U.S., where I met with the president of the United States and great friend of Israel, Donald Trump. I addressed the [U.S. Jewish lobby] AIPAC Policy Conference and met with Senate and House leaders – Republicans and Democrats, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley and hundreds of business people. I encouraged them to invest in Israel."
According to Netanyahu, "The diplomatic talks focused mainly on Iran. I said that the nuclear agreement with Iran contains many threats to the world, including the special danger of the nuclearization of the Middle East," he said, referring to the 2015 agreement between Iran and world powers meant to curb Iran's nuclear aspirations.
"Many countries in the Middle East are saying that they, too, should be allowed to enrich uranium if Iran is allowed to do it; therefore, the way to prevent this danger – the nuclearization of the Middle East – is to either thoroughly fix the agreement or nix it," Netanyahu, a longtime critic of the nuclear agreement, told his cabinet.
"Moreover, may I remind you that Iran declares on an almost daily basis, including recently, its wish to wipe out the State of Israel," he said.
Netanyahu told cabinet members, "Time will tell just how important that meeting with Trump was for Israel's security." When asked to elaborate, Netanyahu replied, "Use your imagination."
