If Israel held a general election today, the Likud would win 36 Knesset seats, giving it a large margin of victory, a new poll commissioned by the party shows.
The poll, conducted by the Geocartography Knowledge Group, surveyed a representative sample of 587 voters. The poll gave the Likud a projected 30 seats, and an additional six projected seats once the votes for parties that do not pass the electoral threshold are added.
In recent weeks, various polls have shown growing support for the Likud Party, despite the investigations into alleged corruption involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A Likud poll from the first week in February gave the Likud 30 Knesset seats, and a separate poll published on Feb. 21 projected 34 seats for the party.
According to the latest poll, the Zionist Union is losing strength and would win only 10 Knesset seats – down from predictions earlier this month, which ranged from 12 to 15 seats for the mainstream left-centrist party – and 10 each for United Torah Judaism and the Joint Arab List.
The Yesh Atid party, headed by MK Yair Lapid, would scoop up 23 seats, nearly double its current 12 seats. Habayit Hayehudit, which currently has eight seats, would win 11 if an election were held today, the poll showed.
