Nessia Lieberman, the granddaughter of former senator and Democratic candidate for vice president Joe Lieberman, arrived in Israel as a new immigrant on Monday.
Lieberman, 20, left her home in Atlanta, Georgia, and will start her life in Israel on Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu, near the Sea of Galilee, where she will study Hebrew. Later, she plans to volunteer for national service.
"I've dreamed of making aliyah since I visited Israel in the eighth grade. I'm so excited that I'm finally achieving that goal," the new citizen said with a smile.
"Making aliyah was a scary step, but I believe that this is where I belong. Israel is my home," she said.
