Two soldiers in a military vehicle were attacked by Palestinians after accidentally entering the West Bank city of Jenin on Monday.
Dozens of Palestinians approached the vehicle and threw rocks at the soldiers. One of the soldiers' guns was also snatched during the incident.
The soldiers sustained minor injuries and were rescued with the help of Israel's Civil Administration, the governing body that operates in the West Bank.
The soldiers were taken to the Jalamah checkpoint north of the city.
After the incident, a senior Palestinian police official remarked that "this could have ended in a lynching. The fast response by the Palestinian forces in Jenin led to the rescue of the soldiers from an angry mob."
The official said the soldiers had apparently gotten lost, adding that upon realizing they had entered Palestinian territory, they tried to use the Waze navigation app to get to the Jalamah checkpoint.
