Some 370 international students landed in Israel last week to begin the spring semester at Tel Aviv University – a record number of foreign students to register at the university since the Second Intifada broke out almost two decades ago.
Most of the students are slated to join the study abroad program at Tel Aviv University's International School. Study abroad students have the option of staying for the year-long program or just one semester.
The students are on average 20 years old and 69% of them are female. Most come from the U.S., but the group is diverse, including students hailing from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Greece, Panama and England.
The director of the school, Maureen Meyer Adiri, said, "I believe that the students who return to their countries of origin after such a powerful experience will serve as ambassadors for the university and for the State of Israel."
