Every year, tens of thousands of young Israelis begin their mandatory service in the Israel Defense Forces.
For most, it is a moment of national pride and a personal coming of age. But this year, 63 12th graders organized by the Mesarvot network have signed an open letter to the prime minister, defense and education ministers, and IDF chief of staff, indicating their refusal to serve over what they called "the military's implementation of a racist government policy that violates human rights" in Judea and Samaria.
In this episode of Israel Hayom Insider, Opinion Editor Steve Ganot speaks with Saar Yahalom, one of the signers of the letter, who plans to refuse to be drafted, and Kinneret Hamburger, an activist in the right-wing Zionist organization Im Tirtzu, who plans to serve in the IDF and opposes draft evasion.
