Days before father of six Raziel Shevach was murdered by a terrorist in the Samaria outpost of Havat Gilad on Tuesday evening, a fellow resident posted on Facebook warning locals about insufficient security in the area.
Zvi Sukkot wrote that "an Arab" had tried to murder his neighbor, identified only as S., the previous week.
"Thank God, the gun of the Arab who tried to murder my neighbor S. last week apparently jammed, and it didn't happen," Sukkot wrote.
"Last Sunday, S. was on his way to Yitzhar. Shortly before the Gilad junction, a car with a yellow [Israeli] license plate pulled up alongside him and stopped. S. innocently thought that someone wanted to ask him something and opened his window. The Arab aimed the gun at his head, from a meter away.
"S. instinctively opened the car door and for some reason, instead of shooting him, the Arab left for Nablus."
Later in his post, Sukkot wrote, "As of yesterday (a week after the incident), the terrorist still hasn't been arrested. Which means that there is someone with a gun who has already decided to kill and is walking around free among us. This is exactly how the Henkins were murdered in front of their kids during Sukkot two years ago."
According to Sukkot, "Much remains to be done, but I don't expect the IDF to switch its mindset in a single day. … Let's start with putting manned checkpoints in place at the entrances and exits to Nablus, at least until the terrorist is arrested. That will cut down the chance of a murder by 99%."
Sukkot has been arrested and investigated in the past on suspicion of involvement in hate crimes against Palestinians.
