India has canceled a $500 million missile deal with Israel ahead of a visit by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the Israeli arms company involved in the deal.
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. said in a statement Tuesday that the Indian Defense Ministry had canceled a deal to purchase the firm's Spike missiles. It said the cancellation came before the contract was signed, despite the company having fulfilled all its requirements.
The statement did not give a reason for the cancellation.
India is the centerpiece of Netanyahu's initiative to cultivate ties with developing nations that have traditionally supported the Palestinians.
However, last month, India favored the Palestinians by voting in support of the U.N. resolution denouncing the Trump administration's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Netanyahu hosted India's prime minister in Israel last year and is scheduled to visit India later this month.
