The Defense Ministry said Wednesday that it was temporarily suspending the delivery of petroleum fuels to the Gaza Strip in response to the Palestinians' ongoing arson terrorism campaign.
Since April, terrorists in Gaza have been launching kites and balloons rigged with firebombs across the border into Israel, decimating Israeli nature reserves and agricultural fields and causing immeasurable damage to Israeli communities near the Gaza border.
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman issued a statement Wednesday saying that the Kerem Shalom border crossing, the main cargo terminal linking Israel and Gaza, would be closed, and no deliveries of fuel would be permitted.
This is the second time in as many weeks that the crossing has been shuttered.
The Defense Ministry stressed that the measure will not affect the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Liberman said the decision to terminate fuel supplies to Gaza stems from the "continued terror of flaming balloons and friction on the border."
