Likud MK Anat Berko on Monday called on the military to stop purchasing produce from the Gaza Strip.
She further urged Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman to review the practice and put a stop to it.
Berko, a member of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee sent a letter to Lieberman on the matter after seeing a photo of produce crates from Gaza in a military base's kitchen.
"Of all the places where produce from Gaza can end up – does it have to end up in the military? Is this what we want to give the soldiers who keep us safe?" she wrote.
Berko noted that she does not dispute Gaza farmers' right to earn a living and sell their produce in Israel, saying her issue was that it ended up on military bases.
"IDF officers and soldiers are at the forefront of the conflict with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. This population supports Hamas, calls for our destruction and does not hesitate to harm Israeli citizens, IDF soldiers and our property," she wrote.
Berko further stressed that produce from Gaza may also pose a security and safety risk and should be inspected to ensure it does not pose a health risk to those who consume it.
