The United States has erected an "American outpost settlement in east Jerusalem" with the opening of its embassy in Jerusalem on Monday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday.
Abbas made the statement during a leadership meeting at the presidential compound in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
The PA leader also called the deaths of demonstrators in Gaza a "massacre" and announced three days of mourning and a general strike on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, senior Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya said Monday's protest was against the "crime of moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem."
The bloodshed drew calls for restraint from some countries including France and Britain, and stronger criticism from others, with Turkey echoing Abbas and calling it "a massacre."
The IDF says it is responding to violence from the protesters to defend Israel's border.
