A group of female Holocaust survivors has enjoyed pampering "makeovers" ahead of Israel's annual Holocaust Remembrance Day this Thursday.

Seventy survivors, a number representing this year's 70th anniversary of Israel's independence, were treated Monday to manicures, hairstyling and make-up as part of an event titled "Beauty Heroines."

Organizers said the day was a gesture toward the now-elderly survivors who had endured horrors during the Nazi genocide of 6 million Jews during World War II.
Limor Katz said the idea was to "spoil" the women as a way of giving "honor and respect to all the survivors."

Haya Stern, 91, said she had lost her entire family in the Holocaust but her revenger was to have children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Israel.
